Our Committees.

The Compliance Committee keeps our members abreast of upcoming changes in compliance policy. It educates members on how current policies may affect their daily process in moving through our new regulatory environment, and what some of the potential penalties might be if a member is found to be in violation. The committee also serves as a resource to answer member questions, and does its best to quash the rumor mill.

Chair - Donn Costa

Donn joined the 1st Security team as Senior Vice President, Home Lending. He previously held the position of Executive Vice President at Sterling Savings Bank after their merger with Golf Savings Bank in August 2009, where he was also the bank’s Executive Vice President since 2006.

Prior to the merger with Sterling Financial Corporation, Donn was the President of Lynnwood Financial Corporation, the parent company of Golf Savings Bank. He was also a member of Golf's Board of Directors, serving on the Asset and Liability, Personnel and Lending Committees and held the position of Executive Vice President of Mortgage Lending. Mr. Costa graduated cum laude from Washington State University with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration in 1985. He was a loan officer at Phoenix Mortgage Company in Seattle from 1987 to 1994 and consistently made the prestigious President's Club list.

In 1986, Donn served as a loan officer at Lomas and Nettleton Mortgage Company. He previously served as President of the Washington Mortgage Lenders and the Seattle Mortgage Bankers. Mr. Costa also served on the Advisory Boards of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

This committee works on projects aimed at improving the financial literacy of youth and consumers, as well as providing professional development instruction for lenders.

The education committee works with Junior Achievement of Washington. In partnership with business and educators, Junior Achievement brings the real world to students, helping them understand the business of life.  JA Volunteers get to share their real-world experiences and make school relevant and fun.

His career began as a Loan Officer in 1997 where he’s worked locally with Washington Mutual, First Horizon and MetLife before transitioning to HomeStreet in 2012. Andy has a passion for the mortgage business. He believes that we can have a positive impact in the lives of our customers, business partners and employees each and every day. He and his teams reflect values of personal growth, teamwork, caring for our customers, and a drive to succeed while supporting the communities where we live and work. Robert has been in the Mortgage industry since 1987 and spent the last 30+ years holding various positions of progressive responsibility in executive leadership.  He most recently spent the past 5 years establishing and growing Opes Advisors, a division of Flagstar Bank as the Regional Director for the Pacific Northwest. Robert has a diverse set of skills and experience in sales, leadership, strategic business planning, operations management, secondary marketing, underwriting, retail mortgage banking, wholesale and correspondent lending. These skills give Robert a unique view of the industry that he is able to leverage into his daily business with his team. Robert is currently the President of the WMBA (Washington Mortgage Bankers Association), and has been actively involved on the board over the past 5 years. Robert has received numerous awards and accolades for his dedication to support his team and involvement in the mortgage community over the last few years, His most recent achievements have been named as One of the Top 100 Most Influential Mortgage Executives in America and the Mortgage Professionals Humanitarian and leadership award.

Robert resides in Auburn, WA.   When he is not giving his all to his career and team, Robert spends time with his three children and always finds time for boating, classic cars and adventure.

This committee makes all arrangements for the annual golf tournament, obtains sponsorships, promotes the tournament, and oversees registration.

Anne Marie is a senior recruiter with Model Match, Inc.  Anne Marie's sales, recruiting and management career spans 20 plus years in the Puget Sound Area, and she has been recruiting exclusively within the mortgage industry since 2006. Her depth and relationships in the Pacific Northwest span many years. She has been an active member of the WMBA since 2016 and was Membership Chair for many years and is a Past President.  She is currently the Chair of the PAC Committee, and Golf Co-Chair.  She volunteers her time with many non-profits.  She lives in Bothell with her daughter, Kristian.

The House Committee arranges and manages the monthly dinner venues, assists with special events and works in conjunction with Membership to promote the growth and involvement of new and current members and guests. This is a great starting point to find out more about the WMBA.

Melanie has been with ARC for 10 years in a variety of management positions.  She has an extensive background in customer service that spans over 20 years.  In her current position as Operations Manager at ARC she handles the award winning team of customer service representatives that have helped grow ARC from a credit only company to a full settlement services provider. Prior to her time with ARC, she spent 8 years in the cruise industry focusing on ADA compliance, itinerary writing, database building and resolving passenger concerns post cruise.

In her free time, Melanie volunteers with Big Brother Big Sisters and enjoys travel, cooking and sailing.

At American Reporting Company, Mike’s primary responsibility is managing and developing new business with banks, credit unions, and mortgage bankers. Mike has worked in the mortgage banking industry since 1984 and at American Reporting Company since 1997.

Mike also helps develop and deliver educational programs related to credit reporting and credit scoring for ARC clients, non-profit housing partners, and first time homebuyers. He is certified to teach continuing education to Realtors in Washington, Oregon, and Hawaii; and has been a featured presenter to national audiences.

Mike is a former board member of the Puget Sound Mortgage Lenders Association and the Community Homeownership Center. He served on the Mortgage Bankers Association State & Local Advisory Council

Courtney Hashimoto is Vice President and Commercial Real Estate Relationship Manager for Umpqua Bank. Courtney has been in commercial real estate finance for 37 years. He has worked for Equitable Life, Puget Sound Bank, Key Bank, Washington Mutual, Cascade Bank, and for the past 2 ½ years at Umpqua Bank. During his career Courtney has served in a variety of lending positions, both as a loan officer and also as a credit officer. Courtney was formerly a Member of the Appraisal Institute and is a past president of the Seattle Chapter. Courtney is currently active in both the WMBA and NAIOP.

Tim Marymee has been active in commercial and residential real estate finance for over 26 years, and is currently a Vice President and loan officer with Washington Federal’s Income Property Lending Department. Tim joined Washington Federal in February 2003 after working for World Savings and Loan for almost 7 years. While at World, Tim held positions as a District Loan Underwriting Manager and also a Wholesale Loan Account Executive, servicing accounts in King and Snohomish counties. He also held underwriting and appraisal positions at Home Savings of America during the 1980’s and into the mid 1990’s.

This committee monitors state and federal legislation that could impact our members businesses, and reports developments to the WMBA Board Chair, Rich Bennion.

Gary Fallon has counseled lenders in connection with loan documentation, syndications, workouts, bankruptcy and regulatory matters for more than 23 years. Gary has documented a wide-range of complicated financial transactions and has also been trusted by a number of lender clients to create and maintain template finance documentation for use in a number of states. Few attorneys nation-wide have as much experience working with lenders on large residential projects. Gary is actively involved in the lending industry and is a former President of the Seattle Mortgage Bankers Association. He received his B.A. from Yale University , and his J.D. from Harvard Law School .

There’s no greater moment than when a customer receives the keys to the front door. Don built Evergreen from a small West Seattle office to a major regional company that encompasses more than 40 branches in the Western United States. During a period of upheaval in the mortgage banking industry, Don held fast to the values that motivated him to launch Evergreen in 1987. His passion to transform the lending experience for home buyers continues to define Evergreen as an organization and to inspire Don as a leader of positive responsive change. Hands-on, creative, insightful, Don is a visionary by nature. He insists on resilience and flexibility in charting Evergreen’s course. His many years at Evergreen’s helm makes him a rarity in the industry, a leader who knows all facets of mortgage banking, from sales and production, to credit risk and managing solvency long-term. Don started in the business as a real estate agent. Understanding the business inside and out makes Don a collaborative leader. Don has served on the board of the Washington Mortgage Lenders Association since 1996 and was president in 2000, 2008, and 2009. He is active in many philanthropic efforts and supports opportunities to improve youth programs throughout the country. With a background in accounting, management and sales that spans nearly 42 years, Dan has held divisional, regional and area management positions with Countrywide Home Loans, Chase Home Mortgage, Guild Mortgage Company and others. In addition to his lending background, Dan worked for 14 years as a real estate agent specializing in new home development, sales and marketing. As well as his position with the WMBA, Dan is a past director with the Building Industry Association of Washington. He is a native of Washington, and currently lives in Des Moines.

She has been with Essent since March of 2012.  Prior to Mortgage Insurance she started her career in Pharmaceutical Sales with Pfizer Pharmaceuticals.   She has been on the Washington Mortgage Bankers Association Membership Committee for 3 years. As Opes Advisors' Branch Manager, Jim DeMarco helps clients make effective financial decisions by showing them a new way of thinking about their mortgage – not just as a loan based on rates, ratios and guidelines, but as something with the potential to dramatically shift their financial situation now and into the future. Beginning his career as a Loan Officer, for over 10 years Jim has risen through the ranks with M&T Bank in a variety of capacities including sales, operations, and management. Prior to Washington, Jim managed M&T’s Wholesale Region in Arizona. In 2013, he relocated to Seattle to assume the role of Washington’s Region Manager. Since then, Jim has played an active role in the mortgage community and was recently named a co-chair of WMBA’s Programs Committee. Jim is originally from Buffalo, NY where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Management from Canisius College and was recognized with their Management Academic Excellence Award.

Jillayne Schlicke

Jillayne Schlicke researches, writes, and instructs education courses for the real estate and mortgage industries as the owner of CE Forward, Inc. Jillayne also provides consulting services in the areas of compliance, mortgage lending law, mortgage fraud, ethics, and communications.

Jillayne is the founder of The National Association of Mortgage Fiduciaries, which serves the mortgage lending industry by raising ethical standards, creating a framework for industry self regulation, publishing articles on ethics and compliance, and helping the industry prepare for the emergence of fiduciary duties.

Jillayne received an M.A. in Psychology from Antioch University in Seattle and studied psychology, philosophy, and business ethics. Jillayne presents hundreds of classes and workshops each year, has published numerous articles for various publications, has been  appointed to 38 professional association chair positions or committees and has received 14 industry awards including “Instructor of the Year” from the Seattle King County Association of Realtors and “Affiliate of the Year” from the Washington State Assoc of Realtors. In 2013 she was chosen as one of “100 Most Influential Real Estate Thought Leaders” by Inman Real Estate News.

Jillayne has completed the Mortgage Bankers Association’s School of Mortgage Banking Courses I and II.

 

This committee obtains donations for the annual fundraising auction, and makes all arrangements for the auction. They also help arrange the toy drive at Christmas and the food drive at Thanksgiving.
